Modern vehicles have extremely complicated and advanced electronics, gone are the days when you check the points and plugs and give the car a tune up. Virtually all systems are computer controlled now including anti-lock brakes, active suspension, four wheel drive, airbags etc and need to be accessed via the cars OBD diagnostic connectors.
